IIHS Top Safety Pick+ has become the gold standard in safety awards for auto manufacturers.
A Top Safety Pick+ is different from a Top Safety Pick – a model must have a rating of
Acceptable or Good on all trim levels, not just the higher trim levels.

For many models, Corolla included, you have to purchase upgraded packages to get the
required equipment that qualifies the Corolla for a Top Safety Pick.

In this case, you must purchase the Corolla XLE or XSE to get comparable safety ratings on the
entry level Mazda 3.

What does that mean? It means you have to spend $7,840 more on a Corolla to get comparable

If you want to max out the allowable mileage for five years of warranty on a new Corolla it’s
going to cost you $1,749 + tax (5 year/160,000km coverage). And even then, that only gets you
160,000km of coverage - far less than unlimited.
