Five Mazda Models Earn Top Honours From Industry-Leading Safety Experts

When it comes to vehicle safety, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety is the top name in the game. Since their inaugural Top Safety Pick awards in 2006, customers have relied on the IIHS’ vehicle ratings to ensure the vehicle they choose puts safety at priority one. To do so, the IIHS focuses on two main safety categories: crashworthiness, or how well a vehicle protects its occupants in a crash, and crash avoidance and mitigation, which refers to the technology that can prevent a crash or lessen its severity.

They use six tests to determine a vehicle’s safety rating, and the vehicles that perform best are awarded with either a Top Safety Pick, or a Top Safety Pick+ rating. More information about how evaluations are conducted can be found here, but the bottom line is that years worth of data analysis proves that a driver behind the wheel of a vehicle with a ‘good’ rating is significantly more likely to survive a crash (depending on the area of impact), than the driver of a vehicle with a ‘marginal’ rating.

So, which Mazda vehicles made the crash-worthy cut? Let’s find out.
