This Is The 2021 Mazda 3 Turbo: All The Canadian Details

The 2.5-liter Skyactiv-G turbocharged engine Mazda that drivers love so much in the Mazda CX-9, Mazda CX-5, and Mazda 6 is now going under the hood of the 2021 Mazda 3.

This is big. This is major. This is the ball game. This is what we've been waiting for.

Here are the headlines.

• The 2021 Mazda 3 Turbo will go on sale at Centennial Mazda in late 2020.

• Both bodystyles, the sedan and the Sport (hatchback) will be available with the 2.5T.

• Max. output is 250 horsepower; torque peaks at 320 lb-ft.

• The Mazda 3 Turbo is fitted exclusively with all-wheel drive.

• The 2.5T will be an option on the GT trim level.

• The 100th Anniversary Edition Mazda 3 will be equipped as standard with the 2.5T: Snowflake White Pearl exterior and Garnet Red interior in GT trim with the Premium Package

• In Canada, the 2021 Mazda 3 GT Turbo sedan will be priced from $32,900. (Prices do not include $1,750 for destination/handling, taxes, title, or additional fees.) The 2021 Mazda 3 GT Turbo Sport starts at $33,900.

PERFORMANCE

The wildly torquey 2.5T that provides more than sufficient power in a vehicle as large as the CX-9 is expected to turn the Mazda 3 into an absolute weapon of acceleration, particularly when you consider that many higher-powered small cars don't have the benefit of all-wheel drive. Yet the 2021 Mazda 3 Turbo will by no means be a performance car alone – it's much more than that.

PREMIUM

This is a truly premium experience. In GT trim, standard equipment in the Mazda 3 Turbo includes Bose 12-speaker audio, leather seating, navigation, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto on an 8.8-inch display, proximity access/pushbutton start, sunroof, heated front seats and a heated steering wheel, 10-way power driver's seat with memory settings, and paddle shifters for the automatic transmission.

SAFETY

Advanced i-Activsense safety tech that will be fitted to all Mazda 3 Turbos include radar cruise control, smart brake support, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure warning with lane-keep assist, driver attention alert, adaptive front lighting, and auto high beams.

PREMIUM

Selecting the GT's Premium Package, valued at $1,700, adds a host of new i-Activsense safety features plus a long list of added convenience items. Traffic Jam Assist enhances radar cruise control with slight steering inputs below 65 km/h. There's also smart brake support rear, smart brake support rear crossing, and a 360° view monitor with front and rear parking senors. The Active Driving Display, head-up display as it's commonly known, is also part of the Premium Package, along with adaptive front lighting, auto-dimming side mirrors, windshield wiper de-icer, a frameless auto-dimming rearview mirror, and HomeLink.

As a cohesive unit, following Mazda's edict for constant improvement, the 2021 Mazda 3 GT Turbo AWD instantly becomes one of the most desirable vehicles on the market. Where else do you find a truly high-end sports sedan or hot hatch at anything resembling this price point?

We'll keep you updated on the new turbocharged 3's arrival timeline at Centennial Mazda.
